HANK WILLIAMS: LOST HIGHWAY

BY RANDAL MYLER and MARK HARELIK

VIRGINIA STAGE COMPANY

DIRECTOR'S NOTES

This play celebrates Hank Williams and his music. It’s the story of a poor southern boy with a golden voice, whose music lifted him out of the dirt and brought him fame and fortune. There’s sorrow in his fall from happiness and success, but his legacy is his music and the people he shared it with. It’s a tale worth the telling, and music steeped in the roots of the south.

REVIEWS

VSC Finds a Gem in Lost Highway

“...this production refuses to whitewash the character of Hank Williams, showing both the good and bad. Yet Lost Highway manages to avoid the morbid route, choosing to celebrate the musical aspect of William’s character instead.

...The reverb echoing from the microphones and the dramatic lighting help build this duet to a heartbreaking climax.

…a fondness for country music is not required to appreciate Hank Williams: Lost Highway. This tale of an American success story gone horribly wrong can resonate with anyone who understands the feelings of frailty and loneliness, and the powerful performance from the actors guarantee an evening well spent.”

– Port Folio Weekly

“[Jarrod] Emmick is surrounded by a super cast of actor/musicians under the perceptive direction of Edward Morgan. The result is a package of perfection.”
