(Set by Rick Rasmussen for Laughter on the 23rd Floor at Next Act Theatre)
It's December and I actually have 3 productions running. My co-adaptation of A CHRISTMAS CAROL is playing at Clarence Brown Theatre in Knoxville, LAUGHTER ON THE 23RD FLOOR is at Next Act in Milwaukee, and MORE HOLIDAY TALES is at the Northern Lights Theatre in the Potawatomi Casino in Milwaukee.
LAUGHTER ON THE 23RD FLOOR is a very funny play. It's been years since I worked on a play by Neil Simon and it was a joy to be in his smart, wise-cracking, heartfelt world again. The production is tight and everyone's having a good time, onstage
MORE HOLIDAY TALES is a one man show with storyteller/comedian John McGivern. It's the 3rd time we've mounted a holiday show at the casino, but probably about the 10th time we've done some sort of holiday show. Once again this year we mixed it up, adding stories he hadn't told in years, a story from his summer show and new material. He's extremely talented and we have a great process together.
My version of A CHRISTMAS CAROL was written with Joe Hanreddy in the late 1990's. I directed it at Clarence Brown rom 2006-2011 and it ran at Milwaukee Rep for about 15 years, with various directors (including me). After 2011, the Clarence Brown changed to a different version, but as of last year they came back to ours. Hooray. Our version has also been produced at UNLV and Ball State University. This production was directed by Katherine Conlin.
