JUNE 2021
In 2019, I rewrote a screenplay and did some work as an acting coach with the lead actress for a film that was about to go into production in the Dominican Republic. I was unable to stay for the shoot because of another project but but today it finally premieres at the Festival de Cine de Malaga in Spain. It's called 15 HORAS and was directed by Judith Colell. The trailer looks really good and it's here. https://festivaldemalaga.com/pelicula/ver/2243/15-horas- The film is a

APRIL 2021
The pandemic continues but I'm finally directing an actual live show again, more than a year since the last one. It's JOHN McGIVERN, UP CLOSE (BUT NOT TOO CLOSE) at the gorgeous, historic Pabst Theatre in Milwaukee. John is a multiple Emmy Award-winning public TV host and storyteller/comedian. He and I have worked together off and on for years. We were originally scheduled for a holiday show, then rescheduled for the late February, and now finally we'll open April 23. It's a

JANUARY 2021
I'm extraordinarily relieved that we have a new U.S. President. Despite the mess that America is still in, as a society and as a country, I couldn't possibly comment on this month without saying that. Democracy managed to survive. Meanwhile, Covid-19 rages on. I've been in the DR since mid-December. My production with John McGivern in Milwaukee, which was originally scheduled for early December, then postponed to late February, is postponed again. EL PANFLETO, which was mount

NOVEMBER 2020
The year continues to be strange. JOHN MCGIVERN, UP CLOSE (BUT NOT TOO CLOSE!) has been postponed due to the rising levels of Covid-19 infections in Milwaukee. Our current plan is to mount it in late February, 2021, but not a holiday version. We'll see. Meantime, THE CHRISTIANS is about to be released for streaming. It's a tele-play, mostly filmed in a beautiful church and so much more than just another Zoom presentation. It's pretty fully staged, and shot and edited to broa

SEPTEMBER 2020
What a strange time it is. I've stayed busy for the past many months in a variety of ways, but there's no real sense of normal in it all. Happily, EL PANFLETO was mounted just before the pandemic shut things down, and when things clear we plan to remount it in Santiago. I'm also currently doing some educational training online, which I see as a prerequisite for a future creative project, and possibly another Fulbright. I have two productions coming up. The first will be THE

JULY 2020
I’m still in Santiago, though soon headed back to NY. The theatre world is still flat on its back, but I had a terrific online theatre experience recently: a reading of my play SO YOU CAN LOOK AHEAD , co-sponsored by Regent's University London and the memorial association, Gedenkort-T4, Berlin. The cast was from the USA, Italy and England, the producer was in the Netherlands and the director is English. The reading was recorded on Zoom, edited on IMovie with some added images

MAY 2020
It's hard to believe so many months have passed, but this is a strange time. I've been in the Dominican Republic longer than expected but I'm thankful to be here, for various reasons. Just before the world shut down, we were able to open EL PANFLETO at the Gran Teatro de Cibao in Santiago. Thankfully, it was well received. We had another week of performances scheduled in May. But of course, that's now postponed until further notice. The good news is that the production was

DECEMBER 2019
(Set by Rick Rasmussen for Laughter on the 23rd Floor at Next Act Theatre) It's December and I actually have 3 productions running. My co-adaptation of A CHRISTMAS CAROL is playing at Clarence Brown Theatre in Knoxville, LAUGHTER ON THE 23RD FLOOR is at Next Act in Milwaukee, and MORE HOLIDAY TALES is at the Northern Lights Theatre in the Potawatomi Casino in Milwaukee. LAUGHTER ON THE 23RD FLOOR is a very funny play. It's been years since I worked on a play by Neil Simon

SEPTEMBER 2019
I'm back in the states after spending half of 2019 in Sofia, Bulgaria as a Senior Fulbright Scholar. I taught graduate classes at New Bulgarian University and directed a production of my play THE PAMPHLET , in Bulgarian (with English surtitles). Directing wikth a Bulgarian text was certainly a challenge, but of course I knew the play and had already directed a reading of it in Spanish and almost all of the actors had very good English. I also directed a staged reading of THE
